Asking Someone Out

I don't get how it's done cleanly. Somehow in the past, the actual 'getting together' part of the relationship has been the messiest.

Examples:

"Do you want to go out with me?"

"Do you want to go out on a date?"

"Do you want to go out on a date with me?"

"Will you be my girlfriend/boyfriend?"

"Will you be mine?"

"Hypothetically.... *insert something about asking the other party out*.... What if it wasn't so hypothetical?"

(Apologies if I used your experience as an example. I hope you don't mind too much!)
